Obinna lost his parents early in life, and his relations were not willing to help him. He did odd jobs to stay alive, but then he lived from hand to mouth. During the Christmas season, when people travel to the villages to celebrate the season, he discovered that those of his age mates who left the village to the cities prospered, even though in the village, you don't pay house rent, and people engaged in farming, to help themselves.
Obinna decided to take the bull by the horn, by venturing out, since an Igbo proverb says, that you don't watch a masquerade from the same stand. In life, those who ventured out succeeded more than those who avoided risks, and remained in their comfort zones.
Obinna squatted with his friend, Ugochukwu for three months, and left when Ugochukwu brought in his new wife, his long time heartthrob, and girlfriend.
Obinna enjoyed his stay with his friend, Ugochukwu, and was his best man, when he wedded. Obinna hoped to wed his own wife one day, but is not in any relationship with any ogbeke for now.
He went to squat with another brother, who was not as hospitable as Ugochukwu. Obinna was gradually starved by his host, and gradually being turned to a house boy, as he left for another place, in protest.
He went out each day in search of a job, but found none. He, therefore, took the bull by the horn, and started pushing a wheelbarrow. When he had saved some money, he started hawking provisions along the major roads in Enyimba city.
One day his wares were seized and destroyed, by the staff of the state government for engaging in street trading, which is an offence in the state. He was forced to take up a job as a security man for one rich diabolic politician. One day the politician wanted to use him for money ritual, and fortunately for him, he managed to escape, abandoning his few belongings, and one month salary.
He went into hiding for three months, and afterwards relocated to another part of the city.
Obinna quickly learnt how to drive, and got a job with a transport company, but he was not playing his card very well, as he was supposed to, by making returns to the transport manager, but he neglected to do so, and so, when the company wanted to downsize, Obinna was booted out of the company.
Nneka, a spinster lived in the same neighbourhoods with him. she has a rich provisions store, but has been unlucky with her lovers, who exploited her, and ran away.
One day, Nneka invited him to a dinner, and along line, he raped her, but then she liked it. He pined her down for more than one hour. She had wanted to scream, but changed her mind, and moaned quietly.
Afterwards, she never complained, and gave him money to begin a business.
Obinna started growing fat and sleek, and money began to roll in. Soon, young ladies began to admire him, and started making passes at him. Nneka told him to pay her bride price, so that their relationship would be formal, but he delayed, and kept giving unnecessary excuses.
Nneka was willing to provide money for her bride price, but Obinna objected, arguing that it was his responsibility.
Nneka kept putting pressure on him,but then her efforts did not click. One day, Nneka returned to the house to pick something, and found a lady relaxing with Obinna.
When Nneka inquired, he explained that she just came to deliver a message. Nneka asked her to leave immediately, but Obinna asked her to stay. A quarrel ensued, and the lady left.
Nneka could not get a good explanation for the development. She tried to find out from Obinna what she was not doing well, to warrant his sudden change in behaviour.
Obinna could not say anything meaningful, but apologized. She accepted the apology, and that night they killed themselves with love.
A few days later, Obinna did not return after the day's business. Nneka thought something evil had happened to him, and the following day, she went to the police, and lodged a complaint. Later in the day, some one told her that Obinna was in the house of another woman.
Nneka was surprised, and confused. Eventually, she went looking for him, and found him banging his new lover. A fight started immediately, and Obinna joined Adanma to beat Nneka, who had a fractured arm.
Nneka got them arrested, but that worsened matters. Many ladies concluded that Obinna was under a spell.
Nneka was confused and didn't know what to do.
A friend suggested to take her to a dibia, but she was not willing to heed her advice and suggestions. Nneka was pained, but wept quietly in her heart, and handed her case over to God, whom she asked to fight for her, as a God of vengeance.
Six months later, a handsome and successful young man, came and sought her hand in marriage. Initially, she rebuffed him, because she was still thinking about Obinna, and especially, their first love making, during which Obinna sent a thrill in her body.
Obinna did not come back, but then, Nneka at last, accepted the man. Their wedding was very successful, and attracted people from all walks of life.
One day, story had it that Obinna had abandoned his lover, for another woman, which resulted in a fight
and ,Obinna beat the hell out of the lady, who used a sledgehammer to crack his skull, and he died.
