In as much as love is sweet; love can also turn bitter; very bitter that an embittered soul could kill his lover; very absurd indeed. The opposite of love is hate, or hatred. "I love you" is sweet; "I hate you" is bitter; unpleasant, acidic, and dangerous.
Hatred, anger and bitterness-- triplets, known to bring danger, disaster, ruin and death. Love is freely given, and love can also be purposely withdrawn. Love is voluntary. For one reason or another, love can be called off. If Ada discovers that Okey is better than David, she has a right, or choice to dump David, and fall in love with Okey.
If Mike is violent as a lover, Nkechi has every right to call off the affair; love affair is not a death sentence.
If Nkechi discovers that Kanayo is lazy, or poor, and cannot better his life, you don't expect her to choose poverty and hopelessness. If she comes across a better person, she must dump Kanayo, to move on with her life. Nobody ever purposely jumps into a fire, except as a suicide case. One foolish lover went to propose to his girlfriend; the girlfriend treated him with disdain,"I feed you and clothe you with my money, how dare you propose to me?" And he was humiliated in public. Was she not right? Love does not amount to foolishness, stupidity, or iberibe (lack of wisdom, or common sense).
Love is accompanied with emotions: feelings. Love is not compatible with reason.
When love turns sour, there is bitterness, and lack of reason, and when there is lack of reason, trouble is inevitable. Death could be the consequence.
There are many fishes in the ocean; true. When emotion holds sway, reason diminishes. Otherwise, when Ada falls out of love with Ekene; what is he supposed to do?; remain calm and move forward with life. After healing takes place, Ekene falls in love again, and life continues. For every man, good or bad, there is a woman, ugly or beautiful.
But, because reason flees when Ekene is jilted, he loses his reasoning, and begins to be weird, and negative--he kills and maims.
Sometime ago, Ugochukwu and Philo were in love--sweet love; consuming love. They slept together; made love together; ate together; went to church together, but along the line, something snapped, and Philo backs out. She tells Ugochukwu, "go your way." Ugo is full of disappointment, bitterness, and because reason has been overpowered, negativity holds sway. Violence. Death. Destruction.
In one institution in Calabar, a boy killed his lover. Ekaete backed out, and called it off with her lover of three years. There must be reasons for her actions. Maybe, the new guy is richer; more handsome; a better lovebird...
Asuquo devised a ruse, and asked her former girlfriend, "let us have a parting get-together; 'one for the road'.
Ekaete innocently obliged and without reasoning. Why must we have a parting get-together, since we have parted company? She was killed by her ex-lover, who then reported himself to the police. When criminals kill people, they flee, and do not hand themselves over to the Police. Read James Hardly Chase, Nick Carter, or The Man They Could n't Arrest, and prove me right, or wrong. The difference between reason and emotion is this: reason tells you," you must get away fast. If you are caught, you will be hanged." Emotion tells you, "I can pay any price; at least, I have taken my pound of flesh." You are caught and sent to the gallows. Chei! What a pity!
Foolish love .
Some people part company, and still remain friends. Some people part company and still reunite as lovers. Some people divorce, and still remarry.
One senator, knowing that death was knocking at his door, brought back his divorced wife before he kicked the bucket. If I were God, I would have given him a ticket to heaven. Even if he is the Devil's p.a., he deserves a standing ovation. Eziokwu. It is not easy to take such a reconcilatory decision. How many people would have done that, knowing they were about to leave planet earth?
A young man killed his lover because she was fed up with him, and called off the relationship. He ambushed her, on her way to the church; dragged her to a hidden corner and murdered her.
An unfortunate girl just picked a call from her ex-lover, and just like that, her crazy boyfriend just strangled her to death. Just like that; for just answering a call--no more, no less.
